Celiac Disease - An 8 Year Transformation

What does celiac disease look like? 🤔 Undiagnosed: it looks like hell. Diagnosed: you’d never know.

8 years after my diagnosis, I still get looks all of the time that say “really? you look healthy!” That wasn’t always the case. 8 years ago wasn’t that long ago. 8 years ago, I was very underweight with migraines multiple times a week, vertigo, brain fog, joint pains, and so many other symptoms I can’t even remember.

While I may “look healthy” now, I am still far from that. When you look at me, you don’t know my body. You don’t know what I feel each day. This is just the same as how I don’t know what you feel too.

While celiac disease and many other diseases, disorders, and pains can’t be seen from the outside, there are still many of us who deal with these things on the inside every single day.

The comments I’d get when I “looked ill” were very different than the comments I get now, yet, I am still the same person. I still have moments where I feel those pains and symptoms. No matter how “healthy” I look, that, unfortunately, will never go away.

All of us have bodies and none of us have bodies that are perfect (inside and out). Before we judge people based on how they look now, let’s try and listen to people to hear what they’ve been through instead. 👌🏼
