Apologize Less. Appreciate More.

“I’m sorry.” Two words that make us feel awful about ourselves no matter why we say it.

Obviously, we use these 2 words whenever we’ve done something wrong. Whenever we’ve hurt someone. Whenever we’ve made a mistake. But how often do you find yourself using these 2 words when you didn’t do anything wrong at all? I know I do this often.

I vent to a friend about something that upsets me: “I’m sorry for complaining.”

I tell a friend I want to eat somewhere else because I don’t feel safe at the place they picked: “I’m sorry for being difficult.”

I get emotional when talking about something personal to me: “I’m sorry I’m upset.”

So often we say these 2 words. So often we invalidate ourselves and our own emotions when we have nothing to be sorry for at all!

I’ve made it my goal to quit apologizing for being me. I need to quit apologizing for expressing emotions. I need to quit apologizing for doing what I need to do to be healthy.

We all become victim to those 2 words at one point or another, usually because of how someone treated us in the past. Rather than saying “I’m sorry” when we express ourselves, let’s say “thank you” to the person who listens instead. 👏🏼
