It's Not Laziness; It's Illnesses

Many times in my life I’ve been judged for being lazy, unmotivated, and unreliable. What people don’t know is that’s not me. What people don’t know is that I have chronic illnesses.
One week ago I was walking the floors of Expo West, presenting my best self to hundreds of people each day. I walked 20 miles in 3 days and did it with ease (well as easy as someone with chronic illnesses can do). 🤷♂️
This week, I am unable to walk well, unable to function, unable to work, and unable to do most tasks that normal people could do.
What changed in those 2 weeks? My medication. Last week I had my medication; this week I didn’t. That’s all it takes for me to feel how I did before my POTS and Adrenal Disorder diagnosis.
While I may always look normal on the outside, I am far from normal on the inside. I am always hard working, dedicated, selfless, and reliable WHEN my body allows it. I DON’T have control over that 100% of the time, but believe me, I sure wish I did.
With that being said, I’m well aware that we unfortunately live in a world full of judgement. People are quick to assume laziness over illness, but that can change.
The least I can do on my part is approach people with the intent of learning rather than the intent of judging in the first place. If I lead by this example, I’m hopeful that more people can start doing this too 😌
