Key Vitamins That You Need While Living Gluten Free

In the past, I've briefly shared on how important it is to take vitamin supplements after going gluten-free. In fact, I even did a video on it! (Man, I looked so young) Now since this is a topic that has tons of information on it, I'd like to share with you the facts but also share my personal experience with it as well. It's important to note that every single person is different and my celiac is not your celiac. However, vitamin deficiency is something that every celiac or gluten intolerant person deals with after going gluten-free and it's something that definitely needs to be addressed.
Consider taking these vitamins while being gluten-free:
Iron
Calcium
Vitamin D
Zinc
Vitamin B12
Magnesium
Note: These vitamins are the most commonly deficient vitamins in someone who is gluten-free. This of course does not apply to everyone and varies per person.
Common vitamin deficiency symptoms:
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Dizziness
Pale or yellowish skin
Irregular heartbeats
Weight loss
Numbness or tingling in your hands and feet
Muscle weakness
Personality changes
Unsteady movements
Mental confusion or forgetfulness
What vitamins do YOU need?
Every person's diet is different. Some may eat more meat, some may eat less. Some may eat dairy, some may not be able to tolerate it all. Because of this, my biggest recommendation is to always see a doctor and get your vitamin levels ran through blood-work to determine exactly what vitamins you are deficient in. I will almost guarantee that if you are gluten-free and taking no supplements at all, you will be deficient in something. Exactly what are you deficient in? Who knows! I'm not going to tell you to take the exact vitamins that I am taking. Your body is different than mine which is why you need a specific test to determine what vitamins your body requires.
Why is this important?
Think about the people you hear who don't improve after going gluten-free? They feel better at first then begin to decline once again. You may think that this could be from another undiagnosed health condition, (which may be true), but it can most likely be from low vitamin levels. If you are not getting the proper vitamins that your body needs then you can start to have all sorts of symptoms as listed above. Know what vitamins you have to take so you can get your body running in the best shape possible. Our goal with a gluten-free diet is to nourish our body and heal it from within. Getting the proper vitamins in addition to our diet is absolutely a crucial part into that recovery.
